Driver Training and Fleet Risk Assessments
Based in the Berkshire,
Oxfordshire and Hampshire area. We can provide local and nationwide
coverage offering a professional service with highly qualified DSA
Fleet registered trainers. These are not average driving
instructors.Risk
assessments
We offer a specialised service to view and if
necessary amend your current risk assessments. In the current
climate companies need to go further than train just one or two'
drivers. A suitable policy needs to be in place covering all
potential eventualities and ensuring employees have regular reviews
and updates.
We can assess any of your team members and
determine who would potentially benefit from a variety of different
training options. From theory assessments to on road driver
training. We offer tailored packages to suit your companies
individual needs.
Written assessments are
provided both from the training session and full written reports
will follow indicating any future training recommendations. Our
training packages will fully satisfy the need to 'take
reasonable steps' to ensure the safety of your workforce
and any others who may be put at risk by your work related
activities.
Any member of your staff who drives as part of
their work must be covered by these risk assessments. The secretary
who nips out to get a stamp is driving for work, it doesn't have to
be the company representative!
We can tailor a package to ensure
- fulfil current HSE obligations
- save on fuel and maintenance costs
- reduce insurance premiums or ensure
insurance cover is available
- ensure employees are working and not 'off
sick'
- you do not leave your company open to
possible 'no win no fee' type insurance claims that are sweeping
the country
Facts on Occupational Road Risk
- It is estimated between a 25 and 33% of all?
fatal road traffic accidents involve someone who was working at
the time.
- Over 60% of company vehicles are subject to
an insurance claim annually.
- Company car drivers are TWICE as likely to
have an accident, than domestic drivers.
- 3500 road accident deaths occur each year.
That's 10 per day, nearly 1000 of these deaths are estimated to
be work related.
- This equates to FOUR times more deaths on
the road than at work premises
- The Health & safety Executive has reported
that over 77,000 injuries per year to employees are caused in
Road Accidents while the employee was at work.
- There are 3 million company owned vehicles
in the UK. Yet in 2004 less than 1 in 10 companies gave their
drivers any additional information or training on how to reduce
their road risk.
- A company car driver covering 25,000
business miles per year (That's only 500 miles per week) is as
likely to be killed in a road accident as a construction worker
is on a building site.
- It is estimated that 10% of company car
drivers are using vehicles with driving licences that are not
fully valid or have out of date information.
- More and more insurance companies are
insisting that company fleets have an accident risk management
strategy in place before they will consider providing cover.

Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate
Homicide act 2007
The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate
Homicide Act 2007 has now been passed by parliament and will come
into force in April 2008. The delay will allow companies time to
make sure their systems and procedures are in place.
Under the new approach, courts will look at
management systems and practices across the organisation, providing
a more effective means for prosecuting the worst corporate failures
to manage health and safety properly. This is an opportunity for
employers to think again about how risks are managed. The offence
does not require organisations to comply with new regulatory
standards. But organisations should ensure they are taking proper
steps to meet current legal duties. From next April, the 2007 Act
will mean that those who disregard the safety of others at work,
with fatal consequences, are more vulnerable to very serious
criminal charges.
In addition more Injury lawyers are
advising clients of the ease of which out of court settlements can
be obtained from work related road crashes involving companies
without a structured health and safety policyWhy Work-related
driving?
It is estimated that nearly 1000
people are killed and over 100,000 injured each
year while driving for work. That's nearly 4 times more
than all other work-related deaths added together.
This is an area that companies need to look at
very seriously. All driving done for work purposes could put you and
your company at risk, so as an organisation you will need to manage
and control not only your vehicles but also the men and women who
drive them. This equally applies to those who use their own vehicles
for work. All driving done for work purposes should be risk assessed
and managed in a way that shows you have carried out your duty of
care obligations. This affects companies of all sizes so please
don't think because you are a smaller organisation it doesn't
concern you because it does.
All workplace fatalities, including road
accidents, may now result in an investigation by the Health & Safety
Executive and the Police working together to see if your systems and
practices were in any way responsible for the cause of the accident.
This means it is imperative that you have in place systems that will
stand up to scrutiny should the unthinkable happen.
We can work with you to put in place a road
risk strategy aimed specifically at your work-related driving which
will cover the three areas any accident investigation will centre
around.
